One day before the weekend arrives I think it is only right that I share some new videos that you can add to your weekend playlist.

Dead by April  – My Heart Is Crushable

Epic lyric video and crushing vocals mixed with some heavy riffs, you’re welcome. 🙂

Nickelback – Feed The Machine

A relevant song that is a departure from their traditional sound. The intro builds anticipation and makes way for the song’s strong chorus. I hope Nickelback’s new material is more or less in the same vein as their first single. I can’t wait to hear more.

Amaranthe – Boomerang

Amaranthe deliver another one of their deliciously unique songs and a great video to boot. The contrasting vocals are surprising at time, but in a good way. Love the way the video was shot and seeing the director’s vision come to life.

Twenty One Pilots – Heavydirtysoul

Twenty One Pilots never disappoint and that is definitely true in this case. A nail-biting video that plays more like a movie than a music video. I love watching Josh drum and this video manages to highlight his abilities.

Have a rocking weekend!

Lauren K

I Prevail – Band Feature

I Prevail is an American metalcore band formed in Southfield, Michigan and established in 2013.

The band currently consists of Brian Burkheiser – clean vocals , Eric Vanlerberghe – unclean vocals, Steve Menoian – lead guitar, Lee Runestad – drums, Dylan Bowman – rhythm guitar, backing vocals and Tony Camposeo on bass guitar.

The band was formed on the 1st of December 2014 and shortly thereafter they started working on their EP. On the 10th of December I Prevail released the first two singles from the EP, “Love, Lust, and Liars” and “The Enemy”. The band became popular after posting a cover of Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space” on YouTube on the 17th December 2014. To date the video has received over 30 million views.

The band released their debut EP, Heart Vs. Mind on the 26th of January 2015. The EP moved over 60,000 copies as I Prevail toured with the likes of Hollywood Undead and Crown The Empire in 2015 on Day of the Dead tour and they opened for Pop Evil in December. On the 12th of March 2015  rhythm guitarist Jordan Berger left the band due to other commitments. The band added touring members Tony Camposeo on bass and Dylan Bowman on rhythm guitar. The band embarked on a few tours namely the Heart Vs. Mind tour, Massive Addictive tour and The Crossroads tour.

On the 17th of May 2016 the band announced that they would be embarking on a headlining tour with support acts being The White Noise, My Enemies and I and Bad Seed Rising.

In early 2016, the boys retreated to Wall of Sound Studios in the small and secluded town of Riley, Michigan to work with trusted producers B.J. Perry and John Pregler. The band worked a year on their EP before they released anything publicly. This allowed the band to learn one another’s musical style. This process prepared the band for the writing and recording for their debut album, they were able to merge their vision in order to create the sound they wanted on the album.

On the 20th of June it was revealed that the name of the band’s debut album would be Lifelines and it would be made available on the 20th of October 2016. The first single titled “Scars” was released on the 1st of July 2016 and you can view the music video below.

I Prevail supported Pierce The Veil and Neck Deep on the Journey’s Made to Destroy tour throughout the fall of 2016. The second single from the band’s debut album “Stuck In Your Head” received a lot of attention from rock music fans and was listed on numerous blogs/websites as one of the best rock songs in 2016 including our list:

https://therockriff.wordpress.com/2016/12/29/best-16-rock-songs-of-2016/

This is how I discovered the band and their music, now I’m addicted and the rest is history. 😉

The third single off the album “Come and Get It”, released on Short.Fast.Loud, an Australian-based punk and hardcore radio show on youth station Triple J. I Prevail was nominated for “Breakthrough Band” at the 2016 Alternative Press Music Awards and has since garnered features from Billboard, Detroit Free Press, AXS, Loudwire.

I love how I Prevail always has just the right amount of clean vs unclean vocals. In general I’m not a metalcore fan, but I Prevail may have single-handedly converted me. The majority of their songs have catchy choruses laced with enough angst for any hard rock music fan. The band has created a beautiful balance with their layered vocals and a solid sonic backdrop.

This does not normally suit my taste in music, but I have to make some exceptions. Initially when I first heard the song I didn’t like it, but after listening to it a few more times I love it! My favourite part is the chorus, plus the female lead singer Maria Brink is pretty.

David Draiman

Original photo can be viewed here: http://www.clubzone.com/events/485798/las-vegas/chateau-nightclub/david-draiman-official-after-party

So today I put the spotlight on David Draiman lead vocalist from Disturbed. Last year I discovered a discounted compilation of music videos on dvd at a music store. I watched it and while going through about 30 videos I went back to Disturbed’s Stricken video, I fell in love with the song and David’s unique vocals. Disturbed is probably the “heaviest” band I listen to and I’m very proud to call myself a Disturbed fan. As a rock music fan I like structured music/songs with rhythm, Disturbed combine heavy guitar riffs and drums in a way that is still pleasing to the ears of a music lover, that is not necessarily a metal music lover.

After I started listening to a few samples of their songs on the web, I decided to purchase The Lost Children which is my favourite album of theirs thus far. After The Lost Children I purchased Asylum and their M.O.L dvd. There is a live performance of “Fear” on the dvd and it shows Draiman jumping up and down on  stage in sync with the audience which makes me want to join in and be part of the experience.

Disturbed has been on hiatus since July of 2011. Hopefully we will still enjoy some more of their work. I love David’s honesty and how he will stand up for what he believes in no matter what. He has a great love for animals which I share. He regularly interacts with his fans on Twitter which I admire, because Twitter is a great communication tool if you use it correctly and can generate even more interest in the band and Draiman’s other projects.

If you are interested in following David here is his Twitter profile: https://twitter.com/DAVIDMDRAIMAN

David is currently working on an industrial rock/metal project and this project is called Device. For more information check out the Facebook page for Device.  http://www.facebook.com/?sk=nf#!/Devicetheband

I’m looking forward to hearing what this new project is all about.

I have to praise Disturbed’s music videos they have released over the years, all of them are quite creative and creepy without making the viewer turn away from the screen in disgust. The  viewer can still appreciate the artistry that went into creating the videos even if it contains dark content/themes.

The way David distorts his voice differently in almost every song never ceases to surprise and amaze me. In my opinion Disturbed is probably one of the most unique bands out there.

I will end off this post with a picture of “The Guy”, Disturbed’s mascot.

“Since his early years with Creed, Tremonti has become widely recognized for his technical and songwriting abilities and has received several accolades, including one Grammy Award for Creed’s single “With Arms Wide Open.”He was also named “Guitarist of the Year” for three consecutive years by Guitar World magazine, and in 2011 he was listed as the fourth greatest heavy metal guitarist of all time by Total Guitar.” Insert from Wikipedia.org

Mark Tremonti’s Debut Album and single.

So I finally got to watch the video for ‘You Waste Your Time’ today ,even though it made its debut on the 17th May 2012, I couldn’t view it. I assume it wasn’t available for viewing in South Africa yet.

Here is the link to the video: http://96xrocks.com/alter-bridges-mark-tremonti-debuts-new-video-for-you-waste-your-time-video/

I didn’t really know what to expect from the lead guitarist of Creed and Alter Bridge, since I haven’t really heard his voice before except backing vocals here and there. I was pleasantly surprised by Mark’s voice and the song, I like it a lot!

You can preview three of the songs off of Mark Tremonti’s debut album ‘All I Was’ here: http://www.tremontiproject.com/

Mark Tremonti is joined on his debut album by his solo band consisting of Eric Friedman, Garrett Whitlock and Creed & Alter Bridge bassist Brian Marshall.
